Within One Year of it's Launch, The Threads App Reached a Monthly User Base of 175 Million

Meta's social media application Threads has surpassed 175 million monthly active users, as confirmed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This milestone coincides with Threads approaching its first anniversary on July 5. Launched last year, Threads aimed to attract users from Twitter, which has since been rebranded as X under the Leadership of Elon Musk.

The app experienced a swift surge in user adoption, hitting 100 million within a week, primarily driven by its integration with Instagram. Subsequently, however, a significant number of users departed the platform. Despite expanding its user base, Threads has faced challenges in sustaining user interaction. Sensor Tower data shows that last month, users averaged three sessions and seven minutes daily on the app, marking a decrease of 79% and 65%, respectively, compared to the previous July.

At present, Threads operates without advertisement and contributes little revenue to Meta. Recently, the platform became part of the Fediverse, facilitating cross-platform interaction. Meta is deliberating on whether to maintain Threads as an independent application or to incorporate its engagement features back into Instagram. Amid these deliberations, there remains significant advertiser interest in Threads.

Reflecting on the last year, Zuckerberg posted on Threads, ‘What a year’, highlighting the platform's achievements. In April, he announced that Threads had surpassed 150 million monthly active users, demonstrating consistent growth.
