Walt Disney names 'Moana' Writer Jared Bush as Head of Animations Studios

In a major leadership change, Walt Disney Animation Studios stated on Thursday that Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jared Bush has been appointed as its new chief creative officer, effective immediately. Bush, known for his work on popular films like "Encanto," "Zootopia," and as a writer for the original Oscar-nominated "Moana," succeeds Jennifer Lee, who will transition back to full-time filmmaking to oversee the immensely successful "Frozen" franchise.

Lee joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2011 as a co-writer for "Wreck-It Ralph" and as the writer for "Frozen." After serving as chief creative officer since 2018, she will now concentrate on directing and writing "Frozen 3," as well as co-writing "Frozen 4" with Marc Smith.

A Disney veteran with over a decade of experience, Bush will oversee the creative direction of the renowned animation studio, including its films, series, and related projects, according to a Disney statement.

Currently, Bush is working on "Zootopia 2" and is the writer and executive producer for the upcoming "Moana 2," which are set to release in fall 2025 and fall 2024, respectively, Disney announced. (This story has been updated to clarify that "Zootopia 2" is scheduled for fall 2025 and "Moana 2" for fall 2024, not 2025, in paragraph 5.)
