Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava Faces Rs 100 Crore Defamation Threat
Vicky Kaushal's new movie Chhaava is making new records in terms of its collection. The movie is already ruling at the box office. While Chhaava is breaking records and hitting the headlines for its good performance, The film has also turned into part of several controversies now. Directed by Laxman Utekar, he is sitting pretty on the hot set. The movie raised a fresh controversy where now the movie has been accused of messing with history and not projecting their ancestors properly. Along with that, there is also a threat of going ahead with a Rs 100 crore defamation suit.
After the defamation case was filed against director Laxman Utekar, he made a public apology. The movie, Chhava is a biopic of the great king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The eyes of people were on this movie from the very start. There was a protest against certain dance sequences in the movie at first, after which the makers acted quickly and removed objectionable scenes. Now descendants of two renowned characters of this film, Ganoji Shirke and Kanhoji Shirke, accused that the figure of their warrior characters has been altered in Vicky's movie and an attempt has been made to depict history in a negative manner.
Laxmikant Raje Shirke, the 13th generation member of Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke, has threatened to sue for defamation for Rs 100 crore. The producers also responded to it. When Laxman Utekar, the director of the film, came to know about this, he forthwith met the family members of Ganoji Shirke and Kanhoji Shikre and apologized.
Laxman Utekar regretted this new controversy surrounding the film Chhava and stated- ''We have mentioned only the names of Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke in the film Chhava. We have not even used their surnames. Also, we have taken care not to mention the villages of both of them anywhere in the film. Our intention was never to hurt the Shirke family. If anyone has suffered any kind of pain due to Chhava, then I want to apologize with all sincerity." Regarding the movie, Chhava has grossed Rs 444.50 crore globally in 10 days since its release.
