Vashu-Jackky Bhagnani, Netflix Settle Year-Long Dispute for Rs 20 Cr
In the year 2024, Pooja Entertainment, headed by the famous producing house, Vashu Bhagnani, filed a legal case against Netflix about alleged cheating and accruing dues amounting to almost Rs 47.37 crore. After several months of back-and-forth between the two parties, the dust seems to have settled.
A consensus was finally reached between the two parties following the settlement, with claims that Netflix had paid for Rs 20 crore to put the issue to bed.
There has been a new development in the Pooja Entertainment vs. Netflix legal showdown presently. It appears that the two parties have chosen to end the issue amicably, reveals an insider speaking to Bollywood Hungama. The figure in question hasn't been made public, but according to sources, Netflix has reportedly settled the case by paying more than Rs 20 crore to the Bhagnanis.
The insider also disclosed that Netflix and Vashu Bhagnani-Jackky Bhagnani have both agreed to put the past behind them and begin anew. They are now eagerly anticipating a robust and long-term partnership in the future.
For the uninformed, in 2024, the Bhagnanis went to war with Netflix in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police. They charged the streaming giant with default in payment for the streaming rights of three of their movies—Mission Raniganj, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Hero No. 1—resulting in a huge legal battle.
At that time, senior Inspector Ravindra Avhad had told, “This amount of Rs. 47.37 crore is what Netflix owes to the complainant, Vashu Bhagnani. But Netflix is not cooperating.”
The officer went on to add that Netflix had received two summonses, but the platform had not shown up and had also not even acknowledged the official letter they were addressed.
Pooja Entertainment, which was founded by Vashu Bhagnani as Puja Films, has been a major force in Bollywood for decades. His son, Jackky Bhagnani, subsequently became an actor, producer, and entrepreneur and joined the company, running its affairs along with his sister, Deepshikha Deshmukh. Under their guidance, the production house has produced a number of blockbuster films, such as Coolie No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, and the latest release, Mere Husband Ki Biwi.
