Donald Trump slammed US Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, labeling her a "radical left lunatic" at his first rally since she became the de facto Democratic Party nominee for November's election.

In a speech in which he also claimed that Harris supported the "execution" of newborns owing to her abortion stance, the former president and Republican contender said: "She is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country."

"We're not going to let that happen," he told an audience in North Carolina, frequently mispronouncing Harris' first name.

Trump's statement comes as Harris, 59, embarks on the campaign tour with President Joe Biden's backing, following his historic decision not to seek reelection over the weekend.

The 78-year-old Republican had been criticizing Biden for his age, but he is now forced to turn after becoming the oldest nominee in US history.

'Execution of a baby'Trump took aim at Harris on Wednesday, calling her "the ultra-liberal driving force behind every single Biden catastrophe."

From calling her "Lyin' Kamala" to claiming that her border record has caused towns to be "ravaged by migrant crime," he said that "she's unfit to lead."

He also brought up the politically charged topic of abortion, after Harris promised to prioritize abortion rights in her campaign and fight for the right to regulate one's own body.

"She wants abortions throughout the eighth and nine months of pregnancy. That's great with her, right up to birth, and even after birth, the execution of a kid," Trump stated. Harris has previously accused Trump of attempting to prohibit the operation, stating that "we trust women to make decisions about their own bodies."

'New Victim'Trump said Wednesday that Democratic Party officials removed Biden in an "undemocratic" manner, stating, "Now we have a new victim to defeat."

"If we start beating her in the polls by 10 or 15 points, are they going to bring in a third candidate?" he joked.

Trump also accused Harris of concealing Biden's "mental unfitness".

Earlier Wednesday, the White House denied covering up any potential impairment in Biden's health prior to his decision to withdraw from the presidential election race.

Harris' candidacy has sparked excitement among Democrats following weeks of instability surrounding Biden, who came under fire after a catastrophic debate performance against Trump last month.
