Swiggy Instamart Faces Copyright Infringement Allegations on Instagram
Nakhul Dhull, an Instagram user, has been vocal about accusing the online fast commerce giant Swiggy Instamart of stealing content from his account and using it in paid advertisements without permission. According to Dhull, this has been happening for around two months, with the video being run by the company as sponsored posts as well as in Instagram Stories.
He has transferred the video from his personal Instagram account and claims to have the copyright for the work. Instagram is where he called out Swiggy Instamart, stating, “…I let it slide thinking it was a one meme thing, but you’ve been running this video in your sponsored posts and stories for two months now. Stop this clownery or imma take action accordingly, I literally own the copyright of this video just in case yall dk.”
The creator of original content is deemed to be the owner within Instagram's copyright policy and has exclusive rights regarding distribution and use. This involves the prevention of others from copying, distributing, or creating derivative works based on the original content.
Currently, Swiggy Instamart has not made any public statements related to the accusations made against it by Dhull, nor has it taken down the allegedly infringing material from the platform. The event raises concerns for unauthorized use of intellectual property in social media marketing, as well as brand implications associated with it.
