Sushant Sreeram departs Prime Video and is joining JioCinema
Sushant Sreeram has resigned as the country director for Prime Video India and will become the chief marketing officer (CMO) of JioCinema, a company owned by Viacom18. Gaurav Gandhi was elevated to Vice President of Asia Pacific at Prime Video in April 2023, while Sreeram was given the opportunity to take over as country director in February 2023.
Sreeram began working for Prime Video in 2018 as the Head of Customer and Brand Marketing. In October 2020, he received a promotion to Director of Marketing. He was promoted to the position of Director of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) Business in 2022. In February 2023, Sreeram received a promotion to the role of country director at Prime Video, consequent to Gaurav Gandhi's April appointment as Vice President of Asia Pacific.
In his capacity as the head of the SVOD company, he was given the responsibility of expanding the SVOD market through the B2B and B2C subscriber segments' acquisition, growth, and engagement. Sreeram oversaw Xiaomi's Indian marketing department before joining Amazon. He also worked at Hindustan Unilever, eBay, Inkfruit.com, and HolidayIQ.com.
Viacom18 and Prime Video India declined to comment.
With Aparna Purohit's departure, Nikhil Madhok was recently elevated to the role of head of India originals for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Madhok was in charge of the creation of original content at Disney+ Hotstar before joining Prime Video.
Sreeram stated in a previous interview with ET that 2024 will be the busiest year for Prime Video India in terms of the sheer volume of content it will offer to customers. With 24 original scripted and unscripted series, Prime Video—which debuted in India in 2016—offered the largest programming slate in the country in 2023. According to reports, Amazon spent about $17 billion on content globally in 2022, including live sports, TV, movies, and music. With a variety of offerings including streaming, OTT aggregation, and movie rentals, Prime Video India is presenting itself as an entertainment center.
