Spotify expands its AI Playlist feature to more countries, but India is still left out

After launching AI-powered playlists in beta earlier this year in a few select countries, Spotify is now expanding the feature to additional regions. “Beginning today, the AI Playlist in English is being rolled out in beta to Premium users on Android and iOS devices in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand,” Spotify announced in a blog post.

What is AI Playlist?

According to Spotify, the AI Playlist merges the platform’s personalization technology with generative AI, allowing users to transform their creative ideas into playlists. “Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced playlist creator, this feature provides a fun and simple way to craft and curate the perfect musical mix tailored just for you,” Spotify stated.

Spotify says that creating a playlist with AI Playlist is as easy as entering a unique prompt into the chat, like “upbeat pop music for my European summer vacation” or “a romantic playlist for date night at home.” Spotify will then offer a personalized selection of songs as per the prompt. Users have the option to revise and refine by typing in additional prompts. “The more specific you can be, the better. The most successful playlists are generated with prompts that contain a mix of genres, moods, artists, or decades,” said Spotify. Furthermore, users can also reference places, animals, activities, movie characters, colours, and even emojis. As with many AI-powered features, Spotify notes that the AI Playlist is still in beta and won't generate results for non-music-related prompts, such as current events or specific brands. “We also have safeguards in place for offensive prompts, so please use the feature responsibly,” Spotify stated.

Additionally, Spotify mentioned that it will continue to work on improving the AI Playlist in the future.
