Spider-Man & The Odyssey Set Record Weekend at Indian Box Office

It's officially the year of Tom Holland and Zendaya vs. Tom Holland and Zendaya at the Indian box office. After captivating audiences as Telemachus and the Goddess Athena in Christopher Nolan's mythological epic The Odyssey on July 17, the star couple returned to Indian theatres as Spidey and MJ in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31 - delivering the biggest combined weekend ever recorded by a Hollywood couple in India.

While The Odyssey continues its phenomenal theatrical run, Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived with a blockbuster opening, together creating an unprecedented weekend across Indian multiplexes for the two stars.

A Milestone Across Two Different Cinematic Universes

What makes this achievement particularly striking is that the two films belong to entirely different film universes. The Odyssey is an ambitious mythological epic, while Brand New Day marks the return of Marvel's beloved web-slinger following the events of No Way Home in 2021. Yet together, the films turned Indian theatres into a celebration of Holland and Zendaya's combined star power.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Creates Box Office History

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the first Hollywood film to cross the Rs 300 crore mark in its opening weekend in India. The Marvel-Sony blockbuster registered one of the biggest openings ever for an international release, collecting Rs 310.38 crore gross during its opening weekend — significantly higher than any previous superhero release in the country.

The film debuted with Rs 60.60 crore, followed by Rs 49.35 crore on its first Friday, before surging to Rs 70.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 77.75 crore on Sunday, taking its opening-weekend nett total to Rs 257.95 crore in India.

Globally, the film delivered a massive $927 million opening weekend - the second-biggest worldwide debut in box office history, behind only Avengers: Endgame. It also recorded a $355 million domestic opening in North America and $572 million internationally.

The film opened to Rs 17.40 crore nett, followed by Rs 22 crore on its first Saturday and Rs 21.90 crore on its first Sunday. After 12 days in theatres, it has grossed Rs 152.40 crore, with nett collections at Rs 127.65 crore, driven largely by strong IMAX occupancy and repeat viewership.

Internationally, The Odyssey is now closing in on the coveted $1 billion mark, having crossed over $911 million in worldwide collections.

Tom Holland and Zendaya's Unmatched India Box Office Run

Together, Tom Holland and Zendaya have cemented themselves as one of entertainment's most influential couples, capable of drawing audiences to two entirely different cinematic experiences within the same month. Their combined success also underscores India's growing significance as a market for Hollywood blockbusters.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossing Rs 300 crore in its India opening weekend and $927 million globally, alongside The Odyssey's Rs 152.40 crore India gross and over $911 million worldwide, the duo has achieved a feat rarely seen in modern cinema - a combined gross of Rs 484.97 crore at the Indian box office for both films.
