Sony PlayStation Celebrates 30th Anniversary with a 90s Retro Collection for 2024

Sony has unveiled a special PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, showcasing retro-themed PS5 consoles and accessories to celebrate three decades since the original PlayStation launched in Japan in December 1994.

The highlight is a limited-edition PS5 Pro bundle, with only 12,300 units produced worldwide. This bundle features a gray PS5 Pro console with 2TB of storage, matching DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, a charging station, and additional accessories, each bearing a unique etched number.

The collection also includes a PS5 Slim Digital Edition bundle, along with standalone versions of the DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, and PlayStation Portal remote player, all adorned in the classic gray color scheme and featuring the multicolored PlayStation logo that evokes the 1994 console.

Pre-orders for the collection will begin on September 26 exclusively at PlayStation Direct in select regions, with some items to be made available through other retailers later. The full collection is set to launch on November 21.

Hideaki Nishino, CEO of PlayStation's platform business group, stated that the collection pays tribute to "the beginning of our journey" and highlights PlayStation's evolution over the past 30 years. The design is intended to resonate with longtime fans who feel nostalgic for the console's early days.

These anniversary products will be part of Sony's holiday lineup, alongside the newly announced PS5 Pro. With its upgraded specifications and this limited nostalgic edition, Sony aims to boost sales and generate excitement around the PS5 as it approaches its fourth year on the market.

The collection features exclusive collector's items such as PlayStation-themed cable ties, stickers, and a limited-edition poster, with the original PlayStation controller cable design integrated into the new accessories.

Sony has not yet revealed the pricing for these items, but considering that the standard PS5 Pro retails for $699, the limited-edition bundle is anticipated to be priced higher.
