On December 3rd, PlayStation will celebrate its 30th anniversary. On this occasion, Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched a special website to celebrate the milestone. The website provides information on PlayStation Console with defining moments and major milestones, key statistics in detail throughout its lifetime.

Indeed, the website marks the PlayStation 2 as the only gaming console to sell beyond 160 million units. This was also endorsed by former SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan in a segment of the Official PlayStation Podcast that aired in March.

Below are the sales numbers shared on the anniversary timeline:

  1. PlayStation 1 from 1994 to 2006: 102 million units sold

  2. PlayStation 2 since 2000: 160 million units sold

  3. PlayStation 3 since 2006: 87 million units sold

  4. PlayStation 4 since 2013: 117 million units sold

  5. PlayStation 5 since 2020: 65.5 million units sold

In the digital era, these above figures show the remarkable impact of Play Station on the gaming platform. The Play Station 2 has been very important to all gaming consoles. It has ranked first ever in all sales.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 both can still be found in the market these days. But then again, PlayStation 5 has become the majority's choice from this pack. The latest hardware offers amazing graphical detail and an overall more immersive experience while gaming.
