By Media Infotainment Team | Friday, 05 September 2025

Slovakia stunned Germany with a shock win in Group A, giving them a dream start as they chase a first World Cup appearance since 2010.

The defeat immediately places Germany under pressure, with coach Julian Nagelsmann admitting his side were “miles away” from the required level. Captain Joshua Kimmich warned bluntly that qualification will not be possible with such performances.

Germany, eliminated at the group stage in the past two World Cups, face Northern Ireland next, who themselves opened with a 3-1 win over Luxembourg.
