Sinners Leads Oscars Race As Priyanka Chopra Joins Presenters

Hollywood’s biggest night unfolded at the 98th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, bringing together actors, filmmakers, and industry leaders to recognise achievements in cinema. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien and featured several presenters, including Indian actor-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who appeared on stage as part of the presenting lineup.

Ryan Coogler’s film Sinners entered the ceremony as the most nominated film of the year, receiving 16 nominations. The film had gained attention throughout the awards season and was widely considered a strong contender in major categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

The 98th edition of the Academy Awards honoured films released in 2025 and was broadcast worldwide. In India, the broadcast began early in the morning with the red carpet at 4:30 a.m. IST, followed by the main ceremony where winners across categories were announced.

During the ceremony, Sinners won several major awards including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, along with honours for Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Cinematography. Autumn Durald Arkapaw also made history by becoming the first woman of colour to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.

However, One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged as the biggest winner of the evening, taking home multiple awards including Best Picture. The film’s performances and direction helped it secure major wins across key categories.

The Oscars 2026 ceremony also introduced a new category recognising casting directors. The addition highlights the role casting plays in filmmaking and marks a change in how contributions behind the camera are acknowledged.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas attracted attention on the red carpet, attending the ceremony with singer-actor Nick Jonas. Her appearance added to the international presence at the event and reflected the increasing visibility of Indian artists at global film ceremonies.
