Rahul Kanwal to Head NDTV in Dual Editorial and Business Leadership Role
Rahul Kanwal, a popular television anchor, may soon take over as Editor-in-Chief and CEO of the NDTV Group, according to reports.
Kanwal is said to report to both the Adani leadership and Sanjay Pugalia, the CEO of AMG Media Networks, which owns NDTV and the news agency IANS.
The NDTV Group's television channels include NDTV 24x7, NDTV India, NDTV World, NDTV Profit, NDTV Rajasthan, NDTV Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh, and NDTV Marathi.
NDTV Limited generated a total annual revenue of Rs 220.65 crore in FY24.
Kanwal resigned from the India Today Group on Thursday, leaving his positions as News Director for India Today and Aaj Tak, as well as Executive Director of Business Today.
"The company has accepted his resignation, and he will serve the notice period in accordance with company policy," TV Today Network, a listed entity of the India Today Group, told the BSE.
According to company policy, the notice period at India Today Group is three months.
According to repors, Kanwal's start date at NDTV will be determined by his release from the India Today Group following further negotiations.
Shiv Aroor, Kanwal's former colleague, joined NDTV Group as Executive Editor on Wednesday, a month after leaving the India Today Group.
With this potential move, Kanwal joins a select group of TV Today Network (TVTN) journalists who have advanced to top executive positions with business responsibilities at major media companies.
Uday Shankar, a former Aaj Tak News Director, is now Vice Chairman of JioStar, and Gaurav Banerjee, another former Aaj Tak editor, is the Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India.
Sanjay Pugalia, CEO of Adani Media Network, previously worked as a senior journalist for Aaj Tak. Kanwal is leaving the India Today Group after 22 years.
