PVR Inox Teams Up with Visa to Enable Mobile Tap-to-Pay Transactions
PVR Inox, India's largest multiplex chain, has partnered with Visa to offer mobile tap-to-pay transactions. The initiative will last six months and will take place in 160 cinemas across eight major Indian cities.
The collaboration helps India's digital economy by encouraging cashless transactions and changing the way people pay at the movies. Tap-to-pay Visa card purchases can be made at PVR Inox theaters using Android or NFC-enabled smartphones.
Visa credit and debit cardholders in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune benefit from the partnership.
When they use Visa tap-to-pay to buy food and beverages, they can also receive a 20% discount, up to Rs 500. For food and beverage transactions totaling Rs 2,000 or more, a discount of Rs 200 will be applied.
"At PVR Inox, we are committed to enhancing every aspect of the movie-going experience, and seamless, secure transactions are a key part of that journey," said Gautam Dutta, CEO - Revenue & Operations, PVR Inox.
"Our partnership with Visa is a significant step in promoting a cashless economy while guaranteeing that our audiences take advantage of the speed and ease of mobile tap-to-pay. We are raising the bar for innovation and customer satisfaction in the industry by implementing state-of-the-art digital payment solutions and offering special incentives."
Customers must first load their Visa cards into one of the supported wallets—Samsung Wallet (for Samsung devices), Google Pay, CRED, HDFC PayZapp, the SBI Card app, or ICICI iMobile—in order to benefit from these promotions. Once configured, customers can tap their smartphones at terminals to finish transactions.
Visa's Head of Products & Solutions for India and South Asia, Ramakrishnan Gopalan, stated, "We are excited to collaborate with PVR Inox to introduce mobile-based contactless transactions to millions of moviegoers throughout India."
"As consumers seek more mobile-first experiences, this collaboration improves the convenience and speed of payments, allowing them to quickly purchase refreshments during intermissions or before the film starts. With Visa's global leadership in contactless technology and PVR Inox's entertainment dominance, we are redefining the cinematic experience for a mobile-first audience."
To raise awareness, PVR Inox will distribute promotional materials throughout its cinemas, including tent cards at box offices and food and beverage counters, plasma screens, and point-of-sale displays. Publicis OOH's campaign aims to communicate offers and encourage the use of mobile tap-to-pay.
