Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match Called Off in Dharamsala Due to Security Scare

The much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) abruptly stopped on Thursday after security concerns rocked the region. With Punjab Kings at 122/1 after 10.1 overs, the game was abandoned, and players, fans, and officials were quickly evacuated for safety.

The match had already been delayed by rain earlier in the day. When play finally started, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first after winning the toss. Openers Priyansh Arya (70 off 34 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (50* off 28) were in top form, putting on a fiery display before T Natarajan got Arya out. But just as the game was heating up, the stadium’s floodlights started failing, and play was paused. Soon after, reports of security threats in nearby Jammu, linked to possible missile and drone activity, led officials to cancel the match entirely.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal explained that a “red alert” in the region forced the tough decision to prioritize everyone’s safety. The BCCI later noted that a power outage caused a “technical failure” with the stadium’s lights, adding to the chaos. To ensure everyone’s safe exit, a special train from Una was arranged to transport players, staff, and broadcast crews.

Both teams walked away with one point each, PBKS, third in the standings with 16 points, and DC, fifth with 14. The sudden cancellation has left fans wondering what’s next for the IPL, with the BCCI now reviewing how to move forward amid rising regional tensions.

The Dharamsala pitch, always a batter’s paradise, didn’t disappoint before the stoppage. PBKS’s explosive start showed their playoff hunger, while DC struggled to keep up. The match was airing live on Star Sports and streaming on JioHotstar.
