The Punjab Kings defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs when they met at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on April 8, 2025. The match between PBKS under Shreyas Iyer and CSK captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2025 created moments of intensity and power hitting along with significant developments as Priyansh Arya emerged as the standout player.

PBKS started their innings after winning the toss which resulted in 219/6 runs from 20 overs. In his first appearance Priyansh Arya impressed everyone with his debut performance of 103 runs in 42 balls through seven four and nine six hits. PBKS started their batting innings flying high after Priyansh Arya reached his hundred in only 39 balls which stands as the fourth quickest in IPL history. The combination of Shashank Singh (52* off 36 balls) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19 balls) continued the team's scoring as PBKS exceeded 200 in their innings. Ravichandran Ashwin along with Khaleel Ahmed struggled during their bowling performance while both taking two wickets they allowed much excess scoring at 48 and 45 respectively. Ravindra Jadeja demonstrated top bowling performance through his three overs during which he only conceded 18 runs and took no wickets.

Chasing 220, CSK got off to a solid start with openers Rachin Ravindra (36 off 23) and Devon Conway (69 off 49) putting on 61 runs together. But things unraveled when Lockie Ferguson (2/40) got Gaikwad out for just 1, and Glenn Maxwell stumped Ravindra, shifting the game. Conway had to retire hurt, and despite Shivam Dube’s 42, CSK couldn’t keep up. MS Dhoni lit up the crowd with a quick 27 off 12, including three sixes, but his exit in the 19th over, thanks to Yash Thakur, ended CSK’s hopes at 201/5.

Shreyas Iyer’s smart captaincy and clever use of bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Ferguson kept CSK in check. For Gaikwad, this fourth straight loss exposed CSK’s struggles with fielding and batting. PBKS’s third win in four games shows they’re on a roll, while CSK’s playoff chances are slipping. Arya’s brilliance and Punjab’s teamwork made this a night to remember.
