On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan with school children, who embellished his wrist with rakhis. The cheerful and heartening event took place at his occupancy in New Delhi, where young girls from numerous schools came together to bind the holy thread on the Prime Minister’s wrist.

In a video posted by a state-run news channel, PM Modi is shown seated in a chair, encircled by thrilled school children. The girls took turns tying rakhis on his wrist, including a specially crafted rakhi themed “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name), which highlighted environmental consciousness. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister also expressed his heartfelt wishes to the nation for Raksha Bandhan.

“Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolizing the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness in your relationships and happiness, prosperity, and good fortune in life,” Modi expressed his thoughts on a social media post.

Raksha Bandhan is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the bond of love between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie rakhis on their brother’s wrists as a symbol of their affections and prayers for their safety. In return, brothers promise to protect their sisters from harm and support them through life’s challenges.
