Norris Wins Sao Paulo GP as Antonelli Holds Off Verstappen
Lando Norris won the 2025 São Paulo Grand Prix after a strong drive from start to finish, leading home Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who charged from the pit lane to third.
Starting from pole, Norris kept control through multiple Safety Car periods, including one caused by Gabriel Bortoleto’s early crash. A later collision between Antonelli’s Mercedes and Oscar Piastri’s McLaren brought out a Virtual Safety Car and ended Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari race.
Verstappen, forced to start from the pits after a power-unit penalty, cut through the field with aggressive tyre strategy and consistent pace. His late push brought him close to Antonelli, but the young Italian defended cleanly to claim his first Formula 1 podium.
Norris crossed the line nearly 10 seconds clear, securing McLaren’s second win of the season and extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship.

George Russell finished fourth ahead of Piastri, while Ferrari’s weekend unraveled with double retirements for Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
For Antonelli, the result marked a major breakthrough and strengthened Mercedes’ position in the Constructors’ standings. Verstappen’s recovery limited the damage to his title hopes after a tough weekend for Red Bull.
