Mumbai beats Delhi Capitals in Thrilling Finish to End their Unbeaten Streak
Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off an exciting 12-run win against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a thrilling IPL 2025 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, snapping DC’s perfect record. MI posted 205/5, and despite a heroic effort from DC, they fell short at 193, undone by a chaotic finish with three run-outs in the second-to-last over.
MI batted first after DC chose to bowl, thanks to a solid 59 off 33 from Tilak Varma and a fiery 38 off 17 by Naman Dhir. Their quick 60-run partnership late in the innings gave MI a strong total. DC’s spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam, grabbed four wickets, but MI’s big hits set a tough target of 206.
DC’s chase got off to a rough start when Jake Fraser-McGurk was out first ball. But Karun Nair lit up the stadium with a stunning 89 off 40, including a jaw-dropping 28 runs off Jasprit Bumrah’s over. Nair’s first IPL fifty in seven years had DC cruising at 100 in nine overs. Then MI’s substitute, Karn Sharma, changed everything, taking 3/36, including Nair’s wicket, as DC’s batting crumbled. From 135/3, they lost five wickets for just 33 runs.
Needing 42 off the last four overs, Ashutosh Sharma (17) and Vipraj Nigam kept DC’s hopes alive, reminding fans of their clutch performance against Lucknow earlier. But Trent Boult’s brilliant 17th over, giving up only three runs with deadly accuracy, tilted the game. The 19th over was pure drama—three run-outs in a row ended DC’s chances.
Karn Sharma was named Player of the Match for his game-turning spell, with MI’s sharp fielding, led by Ryan Rickelton, making a huge difference. “Three run-outs to close it out? Wild,” said MI’s Mitchell Santner, giving props to Boult and Sharma.
This second win in six games boosted MI’s season, while DC, despite the loss, showed their strength. Nair’s epic knock wasn’t enough, but the match proved why IPL 2025 keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
