MS Dhoni Becomes CSK's All-Time Highest Run-Scorer in IPL History
MS Dhoni set a new IPL record on Friday by becoming the Chennai Super Kings' all-time leading run scorer.
His unbeaten 30 off 16 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru increased his total to 4699 runs in 236 matches, surpassing Suresh Raina's 4687 runs in 176 matches.
Despite his late heroics, CSK fell short at MA Chidambaram Stadium, scoring only 146/8 in response to RCB's 196/7. It was RCB's first victory at Chepauk since 2008, breaking a 17-year drought.
With an outstanding average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 139.43, Dhoni has amassed 22 fifties for CSK. The top three run scorers for CSK after Dhoni and Raina are Ravindra Jadeja (1939 runs in 174 matches), Ruturaj Gaikwad (2433 runs in 68 matches), and Faf du Plessis (2721 runs in 92 matches).
Rajat Patidar, the captain, led RCB's innings earlier with 51 off 32, with Phil Salt (32 off 16) and Virat Kohli (31 off 30) providing support. Early breakthroughs by Josh Hazlewood, who removed Rahul Tripathi and Gaikwad in his opening over, rocked CSK's chase. Despite some short-lived resistance from Rachin Ravindra's 41, CSK was unable to hold off, and RCB won a historic match.
