Liverpool Dominate City and Extends Premier League Lead to 11 Points
Liverpool are well and truly riding high at the top of the Premier League after a splendid 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday that extended their lead to 11 points. Mohamed Salah scored the first goal and provided the next goal’s assist to Dominik Szoboszlai. It's Salah’s 25th goal in the league season-leading all his competitors. This win took Arne Slot's side to 64 points from 27 matches.
Arsenal, is in second place, with 53 points, while City, who has 44 points and sitting in fourth place, City's hopes for a fifth successive title are fading. They are now 20 points off the top and are strangely finding themselves focusing on Champions League qualification instead.
The mood among the Etihad crowd worsened when Salah's shot in the 14th minute deflected off Nathan Ake and defeated Ederson and Szoboszlai exploited poor defending to score in the 37th. With rain pouring, many home fans headed for the exits early.
Liverpool supporters chanted “We’re going to win the league,” While thousands of the city’s fans were gone before the final whistle. “Three days ago, we had a draw at (Aston) Villa, and people told me we weren’t in a good place, and then three days later, we won, and it changed again,” Slot said.
Salah's brilliance had come to the fore once again, marking his 11th game this season with both a goal and an assist, a feat no other player has matched in Europe's top five leagues since Lionel Messi in the 2014-15 campaign at Barcelona. Without an injured Erling Haaland, City possessed 66% of the ball. However, no opening was created, and they managed only five shots on target to Liverpool's four.
