Karnataka Government Collaborates with ABAI to Establish Animation CoE

BENGALURU: To develop the animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) sector with cutting-edge technology and advanced facilities, Karnataka’s Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology has made three-year collaborations with the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) to create the AVGC Centre of Excellence (CoE) 2.0.

The partnership supports the state government’s AVGC-XR Policy 3.0 and builds upon the infrastructure and resources informed during the beginning phase. The capability aims to create a virtual and hybrid maturation space to assist startups in Bengaluru and six other locations across Karnataka. This space will offer funding plug and play facilities, encouraging greater self-sufficiency and industry engagement. 

Moreover, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) will offer skilling and upskilling opportunities using Bengaluru’s facilities, which include a mini data center with cloud connectivity and production technologies on a co-working basis. The collaboration will also issue high-end servers and storage with graphic capabilities to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness for startups, SMEs and studios aiming for huge-scale production. 

A data storage center and delivery farm with cloud access will also be set up, allowing startups from raising hubs like Mysuru and Mangaluru to use these facilities.

IT\BT Minister Priyank Kharge highlighted the strategic importance of the fast growing AVGC sector. He pointed out that the sector is enlarging at a robust CAGR of 10.94%, with global projections reaching $282.3 billion and $4.2 billion in India by FY2026-27. The minister stated that this growth could create 30,000 jobs and advance skill development through various proactive measures outlined in the AVGC Policy 3.0 for 2024-2029.
