Kanguva Box Office Collection, Day 1: Rs 22 Cr for Opening
Tamil movie Kanguva starring Suriya in the lead opened to positive reviews on Friday November 14. The movie, which is a metempsychosis drama, directed by Siva.
Looking at the prebookings, Kanguva seemed to have the correct chances of making it big at the box office however the film has only gone on to make Rs 22 crore net on its opening day across India in all languages.
On release, the film experienced 30-40% occupancy levels in all the concerned theaters, with Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’ and Vijay’s ‘GOAT’ having most locations in excess of 50-60% occupancy levels.
With an estimated collection of Rs 22 crores on day one of its release, Kanguva is the highest opening day grosser for actor Suriya beating the previously held record of Rs 12 crores set by Singam II.
As per reports, Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ is said to have been produced with a budget of Rs 350 crores, thus factoring it in among the most expensive Indian films. Therefore, the opening collections of Rs 22 crores are viewed as a loss by the producer.
However, the film is expected to gain momentum on Friday, thanks to the holiday in many states for Guru Purab.
The good news for Suriya fans is that ‘Kanguva’ has become the third-highest opening Tamil film of the year, following Vijay's ‘GOAT’ and Rajinikanth's ‘Vettaiyan’.
One of the challenges for ‘Kanguva’ is the limited number of screens it received, owing to the continued success of Sivakarthikeyan's ‘Amaran’, which was released two weeks ago and is still performing well at the box office.
