Kalyani Priyadarshan's Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra Breaks Records, Hits Rs 100 Crore Mark

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has taken the box office by storm, crossing ₹100 crore worldwide in just seven days.

Directed by Dominic Arun and backed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, this Malayalam movie has made history as South India’s first female-led film to reach this milestone. It proves that a great story can win hearts, no matter the budget or cast.

Released on August 28, 2025, Lokah was made with a modest ₹30 crore budget but has won over audiences with its exciting mix of superhero action, Kerala folklore, and modern storytelling.

Kalyani shines as Chandra, a mysterious yakshi, alongside Naslen and Sandy, with strong performances from Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, and Vijayaraghavan. The film, kicking off the Wayfarer Cinematic Universe, has become the third-fastest Malayalam movie to hit ₹100 crore, following Empuraan (₹265 crore) and Thudarum (₹234 crore).

In India, Lokah has earned ₹46.44 crore net, with ₹25 crore from Kerala alone and solid collections in Tamil and Telugu markets. It’s also doing well overseas, adding to its global success. According to Sacnilk, the movie made ₹6.75 crore on its seventh day, holding strong even on a weekday. Despite competition from Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam, which earned ₹40 crore in the same period, Lokah continues to draw crowds, boosted by the Onam holiday season.

As the film gears up for its Hindi release on September 4, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar praised Kalyani, tweeting, “Talent runs in the family!
