Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Collection on Day 22: Prabhas-led Film Nears Record

Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, premiered in cinemas on June 27 and within three weeks has secured the top spot as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024. On its 22nd day in theaters, the film earned Rs 2.27 crore, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 599.2 crore, as per industry tracker Sacinlk. Although it collected around Rs 7.2 crore on Wednesday, ticket sales dropped significantly on Thursday.

Since its theatrical debut, Kalki 2898 AD has faced no substantial competition from any major releases across the country. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film was launched in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kanada, and Hindi. Despite the releases of Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira and Kamal Hassan’s Indian 2, neither managed to gain traction, enabling Kalki 2898 AD to sustain its dominance at the box office.

As Kalki 2898 AD approaches the conclusion of its theoretical run, it faces substantial competition from Vicky Kaushal’s Bad Newz. However, this week, there are no notable releases in the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries that pose a threat to Kalki 2898 AD’s position. As per Ormax Media’s half-yearly report, the film has accumulated Rs 772 crore in India, constituting 15 percent of the country’s total box office earnings this year.

Kalki 2898 AD, the blockbuster of 2024, aims to surpass the record set by 2023’s top-grossing film, Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, which earned Rs 640.25 crore in India. To achieve this, Kalki 2898 AD needs to generate at least Rs 40 crore more in the coming weeks. The film has already outperformed Pathaan, Gadar 2, and Animal, and currently trails only Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, KGF: Chapter 2, and RRR in terms of box office earnings.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Deepika Padukone, Disha patani and more, Kalki 2898 AD is set to be followed by a sequel.
