On the occasion of the Press Club of Sikkim’s (PCS) foundation day, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang made a significant announcement outlining a range of benefits aimed at supporting and honoring journalists in the state.

Chief Minister Golay declared significant measures, including the allotment by the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department of a final grant for commemorating the Press Club of Sikkim Foundation Day. These celebrations will feature cash prizes of Rs 1,01,000 for the Kanchenjunga Kalam Puraskar recipient and Rs 51,000 for the Lagabsheel Yuwa Patrakar award.

Golay also revealed that journalists' pensions will receive financial support from the Chief minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) fund, with eligibility criteria to be established by the Press Club of Sikkim.

In a step towards safeguarding the health and welfare of journalists, Golay unveiled initiatives to provide health insurance coverage for members of the Press Club of Sikkim. The state government will enable discussions between the central Referral hospital (CRH) Manipal and the IPR Department to ratify the insurance plans.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister pledged to review the occasional advertisement rates for both daily and weekly newspapers, fulfilling a longstanding request from the local media community.
