Is Jay Shah going to Chair the ICC? Gregory Barclay will not choose a third-term
After his tenure expires on November 30, ICC Chairman Greg Barclay has decided not to seek reelection for a third term. An ICC chairman may hold the position for up to three terms, each lasting two years, and Barclay, an attorney from New Zealand, has previously served four terms in that capacity.
According to the ICC, Barclay informed the board that he would not seek reelection a third time and that, upon completion of his term, he would resign from the position. "Barclay was elected again in 2022 after being appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020," the statement continued.
Is Jay Shah going to lead the ICC?
There have been rumors circulating that Jay Shah, the chairman of the BCCI, may take over as chairman of the ICC. By August 27, when nominations for the chairman's position must be submitted, Shah's intentions to run for office will be evident.
Shah is reportedly regarded as one of the most powerful individuals in the ICC boardroom. He now serves as the chair of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) subcommittee, which has immense influence.
With the majority of the 16 voting members, he has great favor. Shah's term as BCCI secretary is now one year, after which he will be subject to an obligatory three-year cooling-off period beginning in October 2025.
He might become the youngest chairman in ICC history at the age of 35.
