India's Women's Kabaddi Team Wins Gold at Asian Games 2026

India's women's kabaddi team clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Iran 37-34 in a closely contested final in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, September 26. The victory extended India's dominance in the sport at the continental event and added another gold to the country's medal tally.

India held a six-point advantage at half-time, leading 22-16. However, Iran mounted a strong comeback in the second half, outscoring India 18-15. Despite Iran's improved performance, India maintained its overall lead to secure the gold medal.

India Defeats Iran 37-34 in Kabaddi Final

The Indian women's team started strongly in the final, building a 22-16 lead by half-time. Iran fought back in the second period and narrowed the gap, winning the half 18-15. However, India's first-half advantage proved decisive as the team finished the match with a 37-34 victory.

Following the win, the Indian players celebrated their triumph with a victory lap around the arena and chanted the national song, 'Vande Mataram'.

India Continues Dominance in Asian Games Kabaddi

The gold medal marked another achievement for India's women's kabaddi team, which has won the title in every Asian Games edition it has participated in except the 2018 Jakarta Games. India had to settle for silver in Jakarta after losing the final to Iran.

The team returned to the top of the podium at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and has now successfully defended its title in 2026.

India's latest victory over Iran also adds to its record of success in women's kabaddi at the continental event. The team has maintained its position among the leading sides in the sport across successive editions.

Indian Men's Team Eyes Kabaddi Gold

India's men's kabaddi team will have an opportunity to complete a golden double at the Asian Games 2026 when it faces Iran in the final later on Saturday.

The Indian men's team had won seven consecutive Asian Games gold medals before its winning streak ended at the 2018 Jakarta Games. Iran claimed the title that year, while India finished fourth.

India returned to the top of the podium at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, reclaiming the men's gold medal. The upcoming final against Iran offers the team another opportunity to secure the title and add to India's kabaddi success at the Asian Games 2026.

With the women's team already crowned champions, India's men's final will determine whether the country can secure gold medals in both kabaddi events at the Games.
