India's Medal Tally at the Paris 2024 Olympics Stands at Joint-22nd
After day two of the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, India has risen to 22nd in the medal standings, thanks to Indian shooter Manu Bhaker's bronze medal in the women's 10M Air Pistol category. While Australia leads with six medals, four of which are gold, India ranks 22nd, alongside Spain, Moldova, Hungary, Mexico, and South Africa.
It's worth noting that Manu Bhaker, 22, is the first woman shooter from India to win an Olympic gold in her category. Gagan Narang was the last Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal in shooting, doing so in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the 10m Air Rifle event.Bhaker qualified for the finals on July 27th, Saturday, after finishing third.
The Haryana-born athlete had a setback in Tokyo three years ago and credits it with paving the way for his success in Paris.
"Can't explain how good I am feeling today" – Manu Bhaker
After the match, Bhaker told the host broadcaster that it took her a long time to recuperate from the catastrophic occurrence in Tokyo. The kid further said that reading the Bhagavad Gita has helped her enormously, saying, as cited by PTI:
"After Tokyo, I was quite disappointed, and it took me a long time to recover. Frankly, I can't put into words how fantastic I feel today. I was struggling with all the energy I had. I'm grateful to have won the bronze medal. I read the Bhagavad Gita and always attempted to do what I was meant to do while leaving everything else to God."
