India's Harmanpreet Kaur arrives in Dambulla for Women's Asia Cup 2024 Title Defense
Team India arrived in Dambulla on Tuesday night for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. The Asian Cricket Council shared photos showing skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, along with Shweta Sehrawat, Asha Sobhana, Sajeevan Sajana, Pooja Vastrakar, and Renuka Singh carrying their luggage. Sri Lanka cricket also posted images of Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, and Harmanpreet upon their arrival in Dambulla.
Before departing from Chennai for Sri Lanka, Indian cricketers shared photos. India’s opening match in the Asia cup, led by arch-rivals Pakistan under captain Nida Dar, is scheduled for Friday, July 19 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s team is in Group A alongside Pakistan, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while Group B comprises the host team Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The semi-finals are scheduled for July 26, followed by the final on July 28.
India are the defending champions and the most successful team in the Asia Cup history with 7 titles. At Last tournament, they beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final that took place in Bangladesh.
India recently beat South Africa in the ODI series and the One-off Test against South Africa in Chennai, India concluded the T20I series with a draw. Smriti Mandhana played a pivotal role, scored three centuries and played a useful knock on the T20I series.
