In the men's hockey semifinal of the Paris Olympics 2024, India was defeated by Germany 2-3 on Tuesday. India had a fantastic opportunity to make it to the Olympics final after 44 years, but Germany ruined it. India's scorers were skipper Harmanpreet Singh (7th) and Sukhjeet Singh (36th), while Germany's scorers were Gonzalo Peillat (18th), Christopher Ruhr (27th), and Marco Miltkau (54th).

Germany will now play the Netherlands in the final, while India will play Spain for the bronze medal. Before the Germans organized themselves again, the Indians got off to a strong start and dominated the first few exchanges.

India had a fantastic chance to go to their first Olympic final since the 1980 Games, but Germany's key goal in the fourth and final quarter crushed their dreams.

In the first quarter, the Indians were aggressive, applying pressure on the German defense and Harmanpreet's goal gave them the lead. However, the Germans—who were renowned for their unwavering perseverance—roared back in the second quarter, tying the score with a penalty corner converted by Peillat and taking the lead through a Ruhr penalty shot.

Both of the Indians' goals were obtained by penalty corners, as Sukhjeet skillfully deflected in a variation from Harmanpreet's flick in the 36th minute. Six minutes before the final siren, Miltkau deflected in a cross to break Indian hearts and give the Germans the victory. They had been attacking with great vigor in the fourth and final quarter.

Although they were awarded up to 11 penalty corners during the game, the Indians only converted one of those opportunities. Conversely, Germany managed to secure a mere four penalty corners.
