Ilaiyaraaja Demands Rs 5 Crore Compensation for 'Copyright Violation' From the Good Bad Ugly Movie Team
Ajith Kumar’s new film, Good Bad Ugly, has been making headlines. But this time it’s not for the box-office collection, but rather for a legal notice issued by the veteran music director Ilaiyaraaja. Good Bad Ugly was released on 10th April, 2025, having Ajith Kumar as the lead, with a cast including Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Priya Prakash Varrier, and several other prominent actors.
The music director Ilaiyaraaja has issued the notice to the team regarding the usage of his three songs - Ilamai Idho Idho from Sakalakala Vallavan, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi from Vikram, and Otha Roobayum Tharen from Nattupura Pattu. Illaiyaraaja has demanded an apology from the team and a compensation of Rs 5 crore for ‘copyrights violation,’ as the team has not gotten the consent of the music director to utilize his songs in the movie.
The music director has also requested the team to remove his songs from the film and to stop utilizing his songs in the film further, as he believes that such acts disrespect the moral rights of the original creator. He gave the clarification that he never gave any permission for his songs to be used or altered in any format as shown in the film.
The legal notice has been issued to the Mythri Movie Makers regarding the usage of Ilaiyaaraja’s songs in the movie. Regarding the notice, the producer Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar stated that “we have taken permission for the songs utilized in the film from the music labels by following the protocol and NOCs issued by the label.”
With Good Bad Ugly being one of the present highest-grossing Tamil films, this particular issue has brought limelight again to the movie.
