Although the Indian side must overcome Australia in their last Super 8 match, Rohit Sharma and his squad may play England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team would also go to the semifinals if Australia and India's match is canceled.

The Men in Blue are presently leading Super 8 Group 1 going into their match versus Australia at Gros Islet's Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. Afghanistan will play Bangladesh in the other match, hoping to get to the semifinals after defeating Australia.

South Africa advanced to the semifinals in Group 2, joining England as the only other team to make it to the last four. The match between the Proteas and the Windies became the equivalent of a quarterfinal as Jos Buttler and company easily overcame the USA to go to the semifinals.

South Africa advanced to the playoffs by defeating the hosts by three wickets, having overtaken England to win Group 2 with six points.

India will play England in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage if they can defeat Group 1. Afghanistan and Australia are also vying for second place in Group 1, and South Africa will play the side that places second in that group.

How is India able to play England in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup?

India's next Super 8 match against Australia must be won for the Men in Blue to advance out of Group 1 and play England in the T20 World Cup quarterfinals. With a victory, Rohit Sharma and company would have six points from three games, guaranteeing their place in the semifinals.

On the other hand, even if the match against Australia is called off due to the extreme likelihood of rain, the two teams will still split the point total, with India earning five points and advancing to the semifinals. However, Australia's chances of making it to the next round will be severely damaged.

The Men in Blue will only be eliminated from the running for the semifinals if Australia loses to India and if Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh to the extent that their Net Run Rate surpasses India's. All three teams would have four points in this scenario, and Afghanistan would only be able to qualify if they were to defeat Bangladesh and surpass India's net run rate.
