HBO has officially announced the casting of the iconic trio for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, set to reimagine J.K. Rowling’s beloved wizarding world. After an exhaustive search involving over 32,000 auditions, Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will take on Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, HBO revealed on May 27, 2025. The series, a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s seven-book saga, is slated to begin filming this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, with a potential premiere in late 2026 or 2027.

Key Highlights:

  • HBO casts fresh faces Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as the new Harry, Hermione, and Ron in its ambitious TV reimagining
  • With 75 million EUR per episode and a decade-long plan, HBO’s Harry Potter series promises a deeper, book-faithful dive into the wizarding world
  • Filming kicks off this summer with a star-studded cast blending newcomers and legends like John Lithgow as Dumbledore

These kids are pretty new to acting but were picked for their spark and charm, say showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director-producer Mark Mylod. Dominic McLaughlin has a small part in a new Sky comedy called Grow, coming out later this year. Arabella Stanton wowed audiences as the star of Matilda: The Musical in London’s West End. And Alastair Stout? He popped up in a fun ad for Albert Bartlett’s Jersey Royal potatoes. HBO wanted fresh talent, so they looked for British kids aged 9 to 11 to give a new vibe to the characters we loved from the 2001-2011 films with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The series is going all out, with a reported 75 million EUR per episode to adapt all seven books over a decade, diving deep into Hogwarts’ magic. They’ve already got heavy hitters like John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape, mixing newbies with pros.

Some fans are super excited, but there’s been a bit of chatter about J.K. Rowling’s role as an executive producer because of her controversial comments. Still, everyone’s curious to see this new trio work their magic. Sets like Privet Drive are already being built, and it’s starting to feel like a Hogwarts homecoming.
