Highlights:
- Indian Young Chess Player Gukesh has won against World champion Magnus Carlsen in Norway Chess 2025
- Gukesh's on-time move over Magnus's committed blunder made the Indian player to take the lead in the game
Magnus Carlsen started the game with powerful moves, putting behind Gukesh. The earlier score of the match relied on Magnus winning the game. But Magnus made the blunder of moving his knight to E2, on move 52. Gukesh utilized this blunder to lead his game forward, and out behind the chess master in the game. This move by Gukesh granted him 8.5 points, pushing him to the third spot, just one point behind American Fabiano Caruana by a single point.
Gueksh expressed his thoughts on winning in Norway Chess 2025 by saying “99 out of 100 times, I would lose- just a lucky day. First classical win against Magnus, I mean, not the way I wanted it to be, but okay, I’ll take it. One thing I learned from the tournament is that time scrambles can get too much out of control.”
This win from Gukesh has marked the nation's place in world history. Along with Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi has won against Chinese GM Wei Yi, granting another win for India. Arjun is the only player in Norway chess with a percent Armageddon. In the women's section, Vaishali won against Koneru Humpy in Armageddon.
