Legendary player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Dinesh Karthik, lost his final Indian Premier League (IPL) game on Wednesday, May 22, against Rajasthan Royals (RR). After the game in Ahmedabad, Karthik - who had already intimated that this IPL season might be his last - was given a guard of honor by his teammates.

Even though Karthik did not formally declare his retirement, the league's broadcaster verified the information on social media after the match. Karthik is regarded as one of the best finishers in this format, having made his debut in the T20 league sixteen years ago. The IPL's digital broadcaster, Jio Cinema, honored the RCB wicket-keeper batter on social media, praising his incredible career that included one IPL championship.

Following the game, when RCB players toured the stadium to thank the supporters, Karthik took off his gloves and greeted the crowd. When Virat Kohli gave Karthik an embrace when it seemed like he was holding back his feelings, a touching moment occurred. Karthik received a guard of respect from his RCB teammates as he returned to the dressing room.

The IPL Career of Dinesh Karthik

Karthik scores an astounding 4,842 runs in 257 games, including 22 fifties, to round off his IPL career. He played for six teams in the 17-year Indian Premier League: Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals), Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bengal. Karthik is currently leading the league with 326 runs scored in 15 matches at an average of 36.22 and a striking percentage of 187.36.
