GTA 6 Release Delayed to May 2026, Fans Disappointed
Rockstar Games just dropped a bombshell: Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) won’t hit stores until May 26, 2026. That’s a big shift from the Fall 2025 release fans were hoping for, and the news, shared on X, has a lot of people feeling let down. The wait for one of the most hyped games ever just got longer.
In their announcement, Rockstar owned up to the disappointment. “We’re really sorry this is later than you were expecting,” they said. “The excitement for a new Grand Theft Auto means a lot to us... but we need a bit more time to make sure the game meets the quality you’re used to.” If you’ve played GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2, you know Rockstar doesn’t mess around when it comes to delivering polished games.
This delay didn’t come out of nowhere. After the first GTA 6 trailer blew up in December 2023, Rockstar went quiet, and rumors started swirling. Some insiders, like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, had already warned that the game might slip to 2026 after missing internal deadlines. Earlier leaks had fans dreaming of a September 2025 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but now it’s clear that’s not happening. PC players might have it even worse, with their version likely not dropping until late 2026.
Fans are holding out hope for a second trailer soon, which could give a better look at the game’s Vice City-inspired world in the fictional state of Leonida. People are also buzzing about the dual protagonists, Lucia and Jason, plus cool new features like smarter AI and a beefed-up Wanted system. The delay hurts, no doubt, but knowing the exact release date helps, and Rockstar’s track record gives fans reason to believe it’ll be worth the wait.
