FC Barcelona Signs Joan Garcia Until 2030

FC Barcelona has officially secured the signing of 24-year-old Catalan goalkeeper Joan García from RCD Espanyol for €25 million, marking the club’s first acquisition of the 2025 summer transfer window. García has signed a five-year contract, binding him to the Blaugrana until June 2030, in a move that underscores Barcelona’s commitment to nurturing young talent with high potential.

The deal got done after Barcelona paid García’s full release clause, with his agency, Niagara Sports, smoothing out the talks. Club president Joan Laporta was all smiles as he put pen to paper at the Ciutat Esportiva. García earned his stripes in the 2024/25 LaLiga season, pulling off an impressive 146 saves in 38 games and helping Espanyol stay in the top division. That kind of form makes his €25 million price tag the second-highest Barcelona has ever paid for a goalkeeper, just behind Neto Murara’s €26 million move in 2019.

García’s signing spices things up for Barcelona’s goalkeeping crew. With Marc-André ter Stegen’s future a bit up in the air—thanks to his big salary and contract until 2028—and questions about whether Wojciech Szczęsny will stick around, García is ready to fight for the number-one spot. Word is, the chance to be ter Stegen’s long-term replacement was a big draw for him.

But because of  LaLiga’s salary cap García might has to wait until July to officially join the squad, while Barcelona sorts out its finances, possibly by selling VIP boxes at Spotify Camp Nou.
