KUALA LUMPUR: India's Eros Investment Group is set to invest $1 billion through Immerso AI-IP to establish Malaysia's first artificial intelligence (AI) film city, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

The minister announced today that this initiative could generate up to 5,000 jobs over the next five years.

During a recent visit to New Delhi, Gobind met with Ali Hussein, the CEO of Immerso AI-IP, which is a division of Eros Investment Group.

"I was informed that the Immerso AI Park will encompass an AI university and an AI data center. It will drive global collaborations to support startups."The AI movie studio and film city hub will enhance talent skills in transmedia and digital productions in Malaysia," he added.

Gobind mentioned that the ventures will also explore ways to integrate Malaysian content into both existing and new intellectual properties (IPs) of the companies.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Nasscom will provide local talent with training in essential digital areas, including Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, software development, and Next Gen technologies.

Last year, investments in Malaysia's digital content sector surged to RM1.6 billion, up from RM550 million in 2022, thanks to MDEC's Malaysia Digital initiative.
