Erigaisi, Gukesh Rank 4th and 5th in Latest Chess World Rankings

The chess rankings announced on Wednesday, featured Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigiasi, and World Champions D Gukesh retained their fourth and fifth position  respectively.

Erigiasi, who became the second Indian after legendary Viswanathan Anand and 16th in the world to reach the gold-standard ELO rating of 2800, he still has 2801 rating points for the fourth sport.

While 18 year old Gukesh, snatched the crown last month from Ding Liren by winning the World Championships title. He is just below Erigaisi at fifth with a rating of 2783.

As of now, Norway's Magnus Carlsen is still in the lead with 2831 ratings while the duo of Americans Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura with rating 2803 and 2802 respectively.

Anand is the third Indian in the top 10, occupying the 10th position with an ELO rating of 2750.

Other than Erigaisi, Gukesh, and Anand there are six other Indians part of the top 50. Such as R Praggnandhaa 13th place, Aravindh Chithambaram 23rd place, Vidit Gujarathi 24th place, Pentala Harikrishna 36th place, Nihal Sarin 41st place, and Raunak Sadhwani 48th place.

A new titleholder of Women's World Rapid Chess, the recently crowned champion Humpy Koneru leads the Indian charge in the women's section. She is currently sixth in the list, with a rating of 2523, headed by four Chinese players.

The highest rated player on the list of women is, without a doubt, former world champion Hou Yifan, who boasts a fantastic ELO rating of 2633. Following her are Ju Wenjun (2561) at second, Tan Zhongyi (2561) at third, and Lei Tingjie (2552) at fourth.

With a rating of 2490, Divya Deshmukh occupies the 14th position, while she is followed by Dronavalli Harika at 2489, and the latter comes second from bottom at the 16th rank.

R Vaishali, the bronze winner in the female section of the World Blitz Championship, is rated 19th with a rating of 2476. In the junior men's section, Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa occupy the top two spots.
