DNPA Supports World News Day 2024, Celebrating the Power of Journalism
The Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) is pleased to announce its support for World News Day 2024, which will take place on September 28, 2024, as a worldwide campaign to recognize journalism's important role in promoting informed societies. This year's theme is "Choose Truth" to emphasize journalism's important role across the world.
DNPA stands with news organizations throughout the world as civil society members, governments, and other stakeholders consider solutions to combat the threat of unverified or false news.
This project by WAN IFRA comes at a time when news organizations, civil society members, governments, and other stakeholders are considering strategies to combat the threat of unverified or false news.
World News Day's "Choose Truth" program attempts to help people critically examine the news they read. News publishers are also encouraged to emphasize their commitment to fact-checking and providing fair coverage.
World News Day's "Choose Truth" program recognizes journalists' heroic efforts to promote openness, accountability, and democratic processes.
On World News Day, over 600 media publishers, broadcasters, and professionals from across the world came together to reaffirm their commitment to producing genuine, verified news in an era of widespread disinformation and fake news. As digital platforms advance, the issue of false news grows, aided by algorithms that prefer sensational material above truth.
The effects of spreading disinformation are far-reaching. In many cases, unconfirmed or false news is presented with sensationalized headlines that spread quicker than verified facts, causing anguish and injury to individuals and communities.
"World News Day is a reminder of the critical role journalism plays in shaping an informed public," stated Sujata Gupta, DNPA Secretary General.
"In today's fast-paced digital world, credible journalism is more crucial than ever. We salute! journalists throughout the world for their commitment to bringing the truth to light."
Through its current activities, DNPA works to develop the digital news ecosystem in India, advocating industry standards and encouraging innovation to ensure that Indian viewers receive trustworthy news in a fast-changing digital landscape.
