Days Gone Remastered Fuels Fan's Hopes for a Sequel

Days Gone Remastered hit the PlayStation 5 on April 25, and it’s got fans of the 2019 post-apocalyptic game buzzing with excitement. The updated version, from Bend Studio, comes with sharper graphics, new modes like Horde Assault, and a 10 USD upgrade option for PS4 owners. Now, players are crossing their fingers for a sequel that Sony once turned down.

When Days Gone first launched, it got mixed reviews but built a loyal following, selling over 9 million copies. The remaster takes full advantage of the PS5, offering crisp 4K visuals, smooth 60 FPS gameplay, and fresh content like Permadeath and Speedrun modes. There are even new trophies, like one called “Sarah’s Gift,” hinting at extra story bits. Fans on Reddit’s DaysGone community are thrilled, with one saying, “It’s like playing a whole new game!” Others love the eerie nighttime vibe and tighter gameplay.

The remaster’s warm welcome has fans dreaming of Days Gone 2. With Bend Studio recently scrapping a live-service project, many believe the studio could focus on bringing back Deacon St. John, the game’s rugged hero, for another adventure in the Freaker-filled Pacific Northwest. “Come on, Sony, just make the sequel!” one Reddit user posted, summing up the mood.

Not everyone’s cheering, though. Some players who got Days Gone through PS Plus are annoyed they can’t grab the 10 USD upgrade and have to shell out 49.99 USD instead. Others aren’t happy about the digital-only release, especially collectors who want a physical copy. Meanwhile, Bloodborne fans are grumbling that Sony is prioritising remasters like this over their long-awaited favourite.

Back in 2021, Sony passed on a Days Gone sequel because of the original’s so-so reviews and long development time. But with the remaster winning hearts and Bend Studio’s schedule looking open, fans are hopeful. If sales are strong, Sony might just give Deacon’s story the second chapter fans are begging for.
