CNN Shakes Up TV Lineup: Tapper, Blitzer, Cornish Get New Slots

By Media Infotainment Team | Friday, 24 January 2025

CNN revamped its lineup, with several well-known anchors and personalities shifting to new roles or time slots. CNN's Executive Vice President of programming Eric Sherling, shared the news in a memo to the network's staff on Thursday.

The new lineup was revealed just hours after CNN CEO Mark Thompson announced job cuts and a shift to a digital-first strategy for the iconic cable news network.

Here’s a revised version:

Key changes include Jake Tapper moving to the 5-7 p.m. time slot taking over an important early primetime news window. Kasie Hunt will take the helm of The Arena at 4 p.m., while Audie Cornish joins CNN This Morning at 6 a.m., Rahel Solomon will host 5 Things at 5 a.m., and Wolf Blitzer, alongside Pamala Brown will shift to the 10 a.m. slot with a new format of The Situation Room.

There’s no word yet on Jim Acosta’s future, the current 10 a.m. anchor who, according to several reports, has been offered a new late-night time slot.

As Thompson noted earlier on Thursday, "We're also streamlining and adjusting some important aspects of how we produce our TV programming going forward.”

"The changes we made in morning programming a year ago both improved performance and reduced costs," he added. "Building on that successful experiment and with similar objectives in mind, we now plan to change the way we deliver programming elsewhere in the schedule."

This will involve relocating some production, especially control room operations, from New York and Washington D.C. to CNN's Atlanta hub. CNN says that the new lineup will roll out over the next few weeks.
