CNN and NBC News saw their internet traffic rise ahead of the competition in July, a month when one presidential contender escaped an assassination attempt and a sitting president lost his campaign for a second term.

CNN.com dominated the month with an impressive 133 million unique visits during 31 days of news cycles that featured former President Donald Trump getting grazed in the ear by a would-be assassin's bullet and President Joe Biden withdrawing from the 2024 presidential run.

According to Comscore statistics, NBCUniversal properties drew 160 million unique visitors, with NBCNews.com accounting for 115 million of those.

NBC News had its second biggest traffic month in history and its busiest July on record, following only March 2020, when the Covid epidemic swept the world. Fox News, The New York Times, and CBS News finished in the top five, with 94 million, 88 million, and 78 million unique viewers, respectively.

July witnessed not just Trump's attempted assassination and Biden's withdrawal from the campaign, but also the emergence of Vice President Kamala Harris as her party's presidential contender.

Former Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez resigned last month, as did the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, only days after Trump was attacked in Pennsylvania.

NBCUniversal's online traffic has consistently increased since NBC News president of editorial Rebecca Blumenstein came from the Times in January 2023.
