Boong Wins Big at BAFTA Awards

In a landmark moment for Indian cinema, Manipuri film Boong clinched the Best Children’s and Family Film award at the BAFTA Awards 2026, earning widespread acclaim and congratulatory messages nationwide.

The historic win has been celebrated as a proud achievement for India, especially for Manipur and the broader Northeast region.

Produced under the banner of Farhan Akhtar and co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex, and Shujaat Saudagar, the film outshone strong international contenders including Arco, Lilo & Stitch, and Zootopia 2 to secure the prestigious honour.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong tells the poignant story of a young boy growing up in Manipur amid social and political unrest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team on social media platform X, stating, “Congratulations to all those associated with this film. This is indeed a moment of immense joy, especially for Manipur. It also highlights the immense creative talent in our nation.”

Responding to the Prime Minister’s message, Farhan Akhtar expressed gratitude, writing, “Thank you Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for your words of appreciation.”

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani also acknowledged the recognition, stating, “Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi Ji, for your kind words and encouragement. We hope this moment inspires many more storytellers from every corner of our country to share their stories with the world.”

The film has been widely praised for its sensitive storytelling, emotional depth, and nuanced portrayal of childhood against a turbulent backdrop.

Released in theatres in September 2025, the film had earlier toured multiple international film festivals, where it garnered critical acclaim before its theatrical run.
