Birla Opus Paints launches Pongal campaign for Tamil Nadu

Birla Opus Paints has introduced a new Tamil Nadu Pongal campaign in the Style Colour Smart Interior painting line to reinforce its regional festivity outreach by telling culturally oriented stories. The campaign was launched as a digital film and is inspired by the real-life moments of a family that relates to the harvest festival, and makes interiors of homes a part of the festival.

The movie focuses on a newlywed couple residing in a joint family as they prepare their home to have Pongal. The story uses informal dialogue on repainting the walls and setting the house up in time to invite guests to the festival to show how the new interiors merge without any issue with family traditions.

The visual narrative is based on the common Tamil family traditions, such as kolam-drawing, feast preparation, and the decorations of the seasons, which give it a sense of authenticity and emotional involvement.

The daughter-in-law is able to look back on the manner in which the Pongal was celebrated in her parental residence, and this is an emotional twist in the story. The end of the movie is marked by the two families reconciled as her husband asks her parents to be part of the festivals, which advances the idea of Pongal as a unifying, harmonious and new start.

Talking of the campaign, Inderpreet Singh, head of marketing, Birla Opus Paints, stated: Pongal is a family festival, a festival that heralds a new beginning. When Birla Opus Paints did the new campaign with Style Colour Smart interior range, we had to capture the culture of Tamil Nadu and how the refreshed interiors can be used to improve the festive events. The movie is a celebration of the customs that render Pongal unique, and the contribution of colours towards the memorable moments.

DDB India has conceptualised the campaign, which is being distributed digitally, supporting the idea of regional relevance and brand engagement based on festivals that Birla Opus Paints has been focused on in the southern markets.
