ASUS ROG Ally 2025: A Game-Changer for Handheld Gaming
ASUS just dropped the ROG Ally 2025 series at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, and it’s shaping up to be a big deal for portable gaming. The lineup includes the standard ROG Ally and the beefier ROG Ally X, both packed with upgrades that make them feel like a full-on console you can carry in your pocket.
- ASUS ROG Ally 2025 debuts with Ryzen Z2 chips, 120Hz display, and massive battery
- ROG Ally X unveiled with 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and the biggest battery in handheld gaming
- ASUS sets new standard with ROG Ally 2025 series—Windows 11, Game Pass, and more on-the-go
The standard Ally runs on the AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, while the Ally X gets the more powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme. The base model comes with 16GB of fast LPDDR5X 6400MHz RAM and a 512GB SSD, but the Ally X steps it up with 24GB of LPDDR5X 8000MHz RAM and a 1TB SSD. Both have a 7-inch 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by tough Gorilla Glass Victus and equipped with FreeSync Premium for super smooth visuals. The Ally X also boasts an 80Wh battery—the biggest in any handheld gaming device—so you can play longer without hunting for a charger.
ASUS made the user experience a priority. The consoles run a streamlined Windows 11 with a full-screen Xbox app that cuts down on background clutter for better performance. A new Game Bar, triggered by a dedicated Xbox button, lets you tweak settings or switch apps fast. You can jump into Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games, and other platforms seamlessly, making it a one-stop gaming hub. Improved cooling keeps things running smoothly, fixing earlier overheating issues.

The design feels like an Xbox controller, super comfortable for long sessions. The Ally X adds fancy impulse triggers and HD haptics for a more immersive vibe. Both models play nice with external GPUs and PC accessories, so they’re basically mini PCs. ASUS is planning a global launch by late 2025, but they haven’t spilled the beans on pricing yet.
With these upgrades, the ROG Ally 2025 series is ready to take on rivals like the Steam Deck, offering serious power and flexibility in a portable package. It’s a handheld gamer’s dream come true.
