Assassin's Creed Shadows Set to Launch: A Feudal Japan Epic Awaits

The waiting period is almost over. Assassin's Creed Shadows, the most eagerly awaited action RPG title from Ubisoft, will be released on March 20, 2025. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, it throws players into the Sengoku period of Japan, the 14th mainline title for Ubisoft, with a much-desired context and a new twist with a dual-protagonist. Following two postponements, first from November 2024 to February 2025, then to March, Ubisoft now promises a polished experience drawn from community feedback.

Set in 1579, Shadows is a narrative of Naoe, a sneaky shinobi assassin, and Yasuke, a historical African samurai who found himself during an era turbulent with warlords and unification under Oda Nobunaga. With a purely Assassin's Creed Origins-like expanse, about the topography of central Japan's castles, ports, and forests, this open world breaks and runs in terms of dynamic seasons-think snowstorms that help stealthy movement or frozen lakes blocking paths. Players can then alternate between Naoe's ninja agility (grappling hooks, shuriken) and Yasuke's brute samurai force (kanabō, katana) while completing non-linear missions with several approaches.

The hype is real! With 300,000 pre-orders - not quite the 400-450,000 day-one players that Odyssey achieved - Ubisoft is ramping up its marketing, confident the game is "pretty much done." Ray-Traced visuals promise stunning bamboo forests and icy reflections, while new features like base-building, gear customization, and allied stealth takedowns add richness to gameplay. Reviews drop on March 18, setting the scene for quite a blockbuster debut.

Despite the past accusations against them regarding the historical accuracy of their games, Ubisoft has chosen to stay true to themselves by mixing fiction with a proper nod to Japan's past. As Shadows approaches, it is going to be a game changer for the franchise—Ubisoft's redemption in 2025. Fans are set to create their own destiny in this ninja-samurai saga.
