AMMA Treasurer Unni Mukundan Resigns, Citing Mental Health Concerns
Best known for his role in the movie "Marco," Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has declared his intention to resign from his position as treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
In a message posted to his Instagram account, Mukundan claimed that his "mental health" had suffered as a result of his growing work obligations. To guarantee a seamless transfer, he did, however, promise to stay in the position until a replacement is identified.
"I hope this communication reaches you in good health. I've decided to resign from my position as AMMA Treasurer after giving it some serious thinking," he stated.
The actor revealed that it has been difficult to balance his work commitments with his responsibilities at AMMA because of his ongoing projects, Marco. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience. However, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production duties, have had a significant negative influence on my mental health in recent months. I've found it somewhat challenging to balance these responsibilities with the demands of my professional life. I now see how important it is to take a break and focus on my own and my family's health," he stated.
The announcement follows past AMMA-related scandals. The 17-member executive committee, which was chaired by President Mohanlal, resigned in August 2024 in response to mounting claims of assault in the Malayalam cinema industry. The Justice K Hema Committee's report on women's working conditions in Mollywood exposed the accusations.
